John W. Davis was a son of L.C. Davis.  He was born in 1833.  He was enrolled on 13 August 1862 and served as a private in Company E of the 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment, the "Thomas County Rangers".  He died at the hospital at Jordan Springs, Virginia, on 3 October 1862.

I believe that my great grandfather John Wilmot Davis, and his nephew John Wilmot Davis, son of his brother Joseph Jefferson ("Joe Buck") Davis, were named after this John W. Davis.
