Winfred G. Spears was Richard White's father's father's mother's
brother.
Winfred G. Spears was enrolled in Company K, 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment as a private on 4 October 1861. The 29th Georgia Infantry Regiment was reorganized on 7 May 1862 and Company K was redesignated as Company C.
According to Soldiers of Georgia, Winfred G. Spears died of pneumonia in Thomas County, Georgia, on 9 February 1864. However, his Compiled Confederate Service Record ends with him absent on sick leave during November and December1861 and there is no further record. It would appear more likely that he died in late 1861 or early 1862. His grave at the Old Thomasville Cemetery in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia, is near the northwest corner of the cemetery.
These are the graves of Harrison W. Spears (on left identified as W. H. Spear) and Winfred G. Spears (on right identified as W. G. Spear) in the Old Thomasville Cemetery, Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia.
