Morris Carter

Morris Carter was the brother of the first husband of Richard White's father's father's mother.

Morris Carter was born in North Carolina about 1823, and so far as is known he resided in Thomas County, Georgia, before the war.  He was enrolled in the 5th Florida Infantry Regiment, Company K, at the same place and at the same time as his brother James M. Carter:  Camp Leon, near Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida -  30 April 1862.

Apparently he fell ill enroute to Virginia and died near Salem, North Carolina, on 26 August 1862.  His widow, Sarah Ann E. Grantham Carter, filed a claim for settlement in the Office of the Auditor for the War Department of the Confederate States on 24 June 1863.  His children were Frances Carter, born about 1857, and James Harvey Carter, born in April 1860.
