Sidney F. McNealy was born in Georgia in 1840 and was enrolled in the (Old) 1st Florida Infantry, Company E, in Marianna on 30 March 1861.  He was absent sick in Montgomery, Alabama, in early 1862 and was mustered out on 6 April 1862.  He reinlisted at Marianna on 13 May 1862 and died of disease at Tallahassee on 9 July 1862.  His father, Adam McNealy, was a member of the Secession Convention from Jackson County.  His brother Isaac McNealy served in the same unit and survived the war.  Source: Hartman and Coles, Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers, 1861-1865, vol.
