Joseph H. Hinson was enrolled  in the 5th Florida Infantry, Company K, at Tallahassee on 23 April 1862.  He was absent for most of the war and was wounded in mid-1864.  He was absent in late 1864 but returned to duty on 12 January 1865.  Source: Hartman and Coles, Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers, 1861-1865, vol.
