George F. Center was appointed captain and assistant quartermaster for the 2d Florida Cavalry Regiment on 22 February 1863.  He was born in 1804 in Massachussetts, married Theodora Hernandez on 29 August 1846.  Center was elected in 1845 as the first state senator from the 15th senatorial district, St. Johns County, and lived in Nassau County in 1860.  He died in Tallahassee on 22 August 1864 of congestive chills leaving his wife and six children.  Source: Hartman and Coles, Biographical Rosters of Florida's Confederate and Union Soldiers, 1861-1865, vol.
