Richard White has too many Confederate ancestors and kin to keep up with,
but he keeps looking for more...
One great-great grandfather was John Shepard Haven.
John Shepard Haven apparently originated in the Thomasville, Georgia, area and later lived in Lee and Grand Ridge, Florida. He served as a private with the Lt. Whitfield's Detachment, Georgia Militia in 1840 and as a private in Captain Redding's Company of the First Florida Mounted Militia Regiment in 1841, in the Second Seminole War. He served as a private with Campbell's Independent Georgia Seige Artillery at Ft. Ward (the Confederates' name for the fortification that they built at the site of old Spanish Fort San Marcos de Apalachee in St. Marks (Wakulla County), Florida). He lived to the ripe old age of 94 years, died in Grand Ridge, Florida, and is buried in Macedonia Cemetery on U.S. Highway 90 between the towns of Madison and Lee, in Madison County, Florida.
The photo was taken in his latter years.
