The following pages contain copies of letters and documents of interest. Most of the letters were written by John Burrell Hanna to his son, Calvin, during the War Between the States. Calvin was in the hospital at the time. John Burrell gave information about Calvin's regiment as well as news of home.

Company B, 8th Florida Infantry was one of the finest military commands sent into the northern theater of the war in 1862. The regiment was with General Robert E. Lee until his surrender at Appomatox. Company B participated in the battles of Manassas (Bull Run), Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Cold Harbor, and Gettysburg. Many of the company were wounded or killed. Hamilton Hanna lost his life at the second battle of Manassas, and Calvin severely wounded before then. The commander of Company B was Captain R.A. Waller, who was killed at Sharpsburg.
