Activities

The Natural Bridge Historical Society, Inc., in conjunction with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection - Division of Recreation and Parks, raised funds to add a small marker at the existing memorial at Natural Bridge, honoring and naming all known fatal casualties of the Battle, Confederate and Union.  This monument was dedicated on 5 March 2000, in conjunction with the annual reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge.

Future efforts will be directed towards acquiring more land for the park, which currently incorporates a part of the area of the Confederate position, and perhaps towards improving public facilities located at the site.  (The present state park covers only a tiny portion of the Battle site, roughly the central portion of the Confederate battle line.  No part of the Union battle line is included.  The parts of the battle area not included in the park are  in various private hands.)  Efforts by the NBHS to acquire more land for the historic site have proceded to the point that the NBHS has tendered an offer for purchase of a small adjacent parcel; however to date there has been no response to that offer.  Another possible park improvement that the NBHS has considered is that of erecting a structure for shelter during annual reenactments and perhaps for use as a meeting place at other times.

The realization of our potential is largely in the hands of the members of the Association, not just the ones currently enrolled but also those yet to join, and their efforts to further the Association's purposes.
